Yemen, under international pressure to quiet domestic unrest and focus its sights on al Qaeda, has offered to hold talks with southern separatists and hear their grievances, state media said on Tuesday.

A protester was killed and two injured after police opened fire on a pro-separatist demonstration in the southern province of Lahj on Thursday, witnesses said. They said police was trying to disperse protesters who gathered outside the local government building in Radfan district trying to raise a flag of the former south Yemen on the building.
